13 Apr 2005.

Dear Bill

Thanks for the copy of your recent message to Armel Le Bail,
copied to the Executive Committee, Mike Dacombe and myself.
I am copying this response to all of those recipients, so that
the most recent CSD distribution countries are known.  I have
just completed the CCDC Annual Report for 2004, so these data
are readily to hand.  The full report will go on our website at:

http://www.ccdc.cam.ac.uk/about_ccdc/company_information/annual_reports/

just as soon as it is approved by our Board of Governors on 10 May
2005.  However, Reports for 2000-2003 are freely accessible, and
show the steady growth in international distribution.

So, in 2004, we distributed the CSD to 1006 academic institutions
in 63 countries.  Two more countries have been supplied since 1 January
2005:  Ivory Coast and Senegal, bringing the total to 65.  The 2004
country list is appended below.  We are currently in discussions with
several other countries, and would hope for further increases in 2005.
Since you mention IberoAmerica specifically, the 2004 data show that
the CSD is available in 52 academic institutions across 10 countries.
As you note, these subscriptions are covered entirely by grants from
the Spanish government and the CCDC, with no charge falling on users.

All of the 1006 institutions worldwide receive the full CSD
(>340,000 structures), complete access software (ConQuest, Mercury,
Vista), and the two derived knowledge bases of intramolecular
geometry (Mogul) and intermolecular interactions (IsoStar).  In some
countries the CCDC has additionally been able to make arrangements
that provide free on-line access to occasional users, who may not be
able to justify the effort of maintaining local installations.  We
offer full scientific and technical support to all users, and we attend a
s many external scientific meetings as funds and staffing will allow,
so as to inform users and receive feedback.

In 2004, we added 28,916 fully validated and value-added new structures
to the CSD, produced enhancements to the CSD System's associated software,
and released the new intramolecular geometry knowledge base, Mogul.

I hope these recent data and facts are helpful to yourself and other
recipients.

  Sincerely

  Frank Allen.
